The location with config.sys rarely matters.  The kernel sorts the
basedevs by type before they are loaded.

I suspect you have an IRQ conflict.  IIRC, the Crystal drivers don't share
well.  This is the case on my 770x and the 600 is of a similar vintage.

What does the output of pci.exe say about the Crystal chipset, if
anything?
