subject: The SOT & EOT debate - ho

PE> You really don't understand this simple concept, do you?
PE> There are system operators, who are responsible for the technical
PE> integrity of the PKTs they send to other system operators.

You wildly overstate this proposition, the reality is that there are
a great raft of minor blemishes which cause the network no problems
for which you arent actually 'responsible' at all. Whatever you claim.

Like I say, if for example the MSGIDs arent absolutely immaculate, you
wont even be getting any comments, let alone being held 'responsible'
And even if you say managed to generate messages with a REPLY and no
MSGID, the most that would happen is that that might be pointed out
and nothing would happen to you if you ignored that.

If however the problem was serious enough to require manual
intervention etc, it may well be that that is pointed out to
assist you with configuring your system properly to avoid that.

PE> Then there are BBS users who have no concerns about technical
PE> integrity, they just log on to a BBS, type "get fucked" and anything
PE> else they want to, and they run the SYSOP's software to generate the PKT,

Even this is a million miles from reality now. Almost
no users do email online anymore, so this is irrelevant.

You claims about how all the software involved in the entire chain of
offline reading ends up with a message in an outgoing PKT is nothing
like you claim on ensuring that the user cant possibly end up producing
a message which is less than absolutely immaculate and pristine.

In fact quite a bit of the software involved in the production of
the final PKT which leave the BBS can and does at times produce
less than immaculate and absolutely pristine individual messages.

Whoever is running that BBS doesnt get PCed and struck off on the spot.

PE> they have no input into what technology is used,
PE> they only get to specify the user-text portion.

This is a million miles from the real world and has been for a long time.

PE> The same happens to me if I start sending
PE> crap to Dave, I will be told to feed elsewhere.

Pigs arse you will. Clearly didnt happened to Dave when the messages
that Russ was posting were less than absolutely immaculate.
