Jean, I guess you haven't been told by the rest of the folks here,
I WORK for INS. I deal with this issue day in and day out. I see the
fraud. The abuse, the crime committed by the so called "salt of
the earth" who are merely trying to make a better life for
themselves.
I'll give you an example. There was this guy from Jordan who came
here as a student. He brought his Jordanian wife with him and their
children. As is custom in his country, he settled marital differences
with his fists.
She called the cops. He got arrested. She left and divorced him.
He married an American girl. Was it for love? Nope. He paid this
girl's mother $5,000 to arrange the marriage. She did. He beat
this girl three times.
The girl he married is a bit slow, because, to hear her tell it,
she "fell down a flight of stairs" when she was a child.
He was placed in deportation proceedings. He was jailed until his
wife posted the bond for him. He beat her two more times after she
posted his bond. She stayed with him. He was ordered deported to
Jordan. He appealed.
He left the United States on January 30, 1998 because his son from
his previous marriage was sick and in the hospital. We thought
that was the end of the story.
Until today. I got a call from a Denver Police detective who said
he's looking for the guy because on the 29th of January, one day
before he left, he leased three computers, paid by check, took the
computers, went to the bank and closed his account, and took the
computers WITH him to Jordan.
Or would you like to hear about the 7 month pregnant woman from
Mexico who got convicted for selling cocaine? Or the guy from
Mexico who sexually molested his daughter?
Or the Irish "widow" who was arrested 13 times for theft and convicted
on 11 of those arrests? Or the Algerian who has been convicted for theft
in four states?
Or the Peruvian who has been convicted of theft three times and forgery
once and who has illegally returned after being deported?
Or the British girl who got caught trying to smuggle in 2 grams
of crystal meth into the country?
What I'm saying is that there are many people who come here that are
anything BUT hard working salt of the earth types.
You say that your husband is a tile layer by trade. I have a friend
who is also a tile man and is also an immigrant. He does excellent
work. He's also LEGALLY here.
As for your allegation that the quota system is unfair, let me
inform you of the diversity immigrant lottery. Northern Europe,
Canada, and Mexico are excluded. Everyone else is eligible. It's
a lottery based on the luck of the draw.
As for the Haitians, those with HIV were ORDERED into the U.S. by
a U.S. District Court Judge in N.Y. Where did I read this? From
the newspapers that had reported it and from our own sources.
As for the Chinese, the allegations of forced family planning, for the
most part, are bogus. When various ships were boarded by INS, those
Chinese aboard were interviewed by Chinese speaking agents, under oath
and on video tape. The overwhelming majority of those Chinese interviewed
indicated that they were single, or had no children and had left their
wives at home.
After activists and lawyers had a chance to talk to them, the stories
changed to include wives, forced sterilization, forced abortions,
etc. Ask yourself this one question. IF these people were fleeing
China because of repressive family planning policies, why is it that
they left their spouses behind? Why did the stories change only AFTER
lawyers and activists talk to them?
I have over 15 years experience in this field. I have tons of actual
cases where people lied, cheated, and violated a plethora of laws to
get here. I've tried to console American citizens who have been
devastated because their alien spouses dumped them right after they
got their green cards. I've talked to American citizens who have
been defrauded by aliens.
I've seen the carnage, the hurt, the damage done. No, not all
aliens are criminals. However, let me give you a sobering
number. Over 30% of the inmate population in the Federal Bureau
of Prisons is comprised of aliens. The crime of choice? The sale,
importation, manufacture, etc. of controlled substances. The drug
of choice is cocaine. Heroin is number two. Marijuana is a close
third.
The percentages are higher in the state prisons in states such as
Florida, California, Texas, and others with high immigrant populations.
As for hard working people, I agree. Many aliens are hard working. Is
this now a defense for violating our laws? If they are here in violation
of our laws, they need to be removed. It's that simple.
Whatever excuse you offer up is not acceptable.
