subject: BUSY signals

RS> Thats not necessarily the same as a usual failure to connect

RS> end. SOMETHING is choosing to hang up very soon after the line
 RS> answers.

BG> Much the same thing has happened here over the past week or so,
BG> but I've given up mentioning problems with Paul's modems, as he
BG> doesn't really appear to give a shit. His end would answer,
BG> then the modems would immediately lose carrier. The subsequent
BG> call appeared to be fine on each occasion.

I did it on Wednesday three times. I called the PCUG in between,
thinking it might be me, even though the Sportshoe has never failed
in 3 years.

It doesn't get to the negotiation stage. The phone rings, Paul picks
up, there is a sub-second's pause, and then I get BUSY. If I ring
straight back, it's BUSY. From that I assumed it might be me hanging
Paul's modem.

Regards,
Bob
