| subject: | OS/2 crash-proof? |
-=> Quoting Stacy Smith to Peter Fitzsimmons <=- SS> OS/2 is supposed to be crash-proof and shut down stray apps (at SS> least the propaganda says that), but it doesn't seem to do it for SS> me. I'm not trying to bash OS/2; on the contrary, I want to know if SS> there is anything I can do to improve my system security so I don't SS> lose half a day restoring from another catastrophic crash? Besides SS> the obvious solution of writing perfect code... Are there any SS> particular settings in CONFIG.SYS, etc. that can make OS/2 more SS> rugged? The best way to make OS/2 more stable is to take out all the code contortions needed to run DOS/Windows and make OS/2 a protected mode only OS. Step 1: Remove any DOS/Windows references from CONFIG.SYS. Step 2: Delete C:\OS2\MDOS directory and any subdirectories. Step 3: Insert PROTECTONLY=YES into CONFIG.SYS Not only is OS/2 more stable and faster, but it takes up significantly less hard drive space this way also. Step 4: Replace DOS/Windows apps which will no longer run with OS/2 apps. * KWQ/2 1.2e * If at first you don't succeed, put it out for beta test. --- Maximus 2.01wb* Origin: The MOCHINE BBS * Irving, TX * 214/399-8414 * HST DS * (1:124/1301) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 54/54 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 SEEN-BY: 711/430 807 808 809 934 942 712/353 623 713/888 800/1 @PATH: 124/1301 1111 1 396/1 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 54/54 711/808 809 @PATH: 711/934 |
