I have one that was designed to work with Novell nets. It's called
a NetPrint 1000. I have used it under many flavors of Win, and
OS/2, and RedHat & Suse. It was a bit tough to set up and this
unit is quite old. I run it w/ LPRPORTD to an output port on the
printer object called \pipe\lpd0. I never had any luck w/ SLPR
although I believe a newer version has been released. lpd0 works
well enough for me so I haven't tried to change it.
Bottom line is that you can do what you asked.
Personally, I wish I had a printer that had a nic and I could print
to it that way, it would be much easier to set up.
