The Spirit Viper is not the only modem to ever experience this kind of
problem; I saw a NetComm ProRack M34F (*not* the latest EPROM revision)
lock up for *six* *days* (before it was manually power-cycled), believing
it still had a carrier (toggling DTR didn't hangup).
I wonder if this sort of thing is more a modem problem, or something quirky
on the line that leads the modem to think it still has a carrier? In any
case, I'm going to ask the PABX guy to check out the line next time it
happens.
