I got your macro (thanks!) and I'll try it out.  I ended up calling MS 
Word tech support on it (after wasting over a dozen hours trying to 
figure it out 8{   She had me upload the file to their file acces board 
and it took her quite a while to figure it all out.
I have a *lot* of section breaks (14 in the 1st 3 pages) and that was 
what was causing the problem - one of the breaks was retaining incorrect 
page info, and we had to go through it section by section to find out 
which one it was.  We deleted the offending section's footer, went to 
the head of the doc (Ctrl-Home) and selected the whole doc (Ctrl-A).  
Then eliminated the last paragraph mark with Ctrl-Left Arrow, copied the 
selected text, and pasted it to a new doc.  Finally, from the head of 
the doc, I corrected the footer and set it for the correct pages.
Whew!  What a pain ;}
