subject: Ethernet, the long way

Hello Ken,
Replying to a message of Ken Pimontel to All:
KP> I was just wondering, as I am thinking of connection two computers,
KP> what the maximum distance between two ethernet cards is. In other
KP> words, how far apart can I place the computers. Is there a difference
KP> in 'workable distance' between UTP and coax?
Coax - 200 meters (from what I recall).
UTP - 100 metres.
It is possible to exceed these figures, however, it is not guaranteed. You
may not even get this far depending on your network cards and UTP hubs (if
used).
Regards, Alec
