| subject: | Writing To .Exe`S |
WP>Why not use EAs? Attach an EA to the file containing your configuration. WP>It's safe, and it's simple. EAs don't physically modify the file, and WP>they are safely copied by OS/2 everywhere that the file goes, and are WP>also kept if you use InfoZIP or lh2.exe compression programs. It is also impossible to write to EAs if the file is on a read only network file server. Even if the file server was made read/write, (probably not a good idea), different users on the network will want to customize their settings, and with EAs this is not possible without copying the EXE file to their harddisks, thus taking up avoidable space. To write user settings to disk, I would only consider using INI files or custom formatted files, not EAs or the EXE. Also, I wouldn't use OS2.SYS or OS2SYS.INI for previously mentioned reasons. Just my opinion, Brian May. ___ * MR/2 2.03 NR * Junk--stuff we throw away.
