Bit her up? Are you driving her with a halter?
A few years ago I went to Greenway saddlery, universally accepted in the
Phoenix area to employ THE experts in English tack. I asked them for the
mildest bit available as Spot was generally unhappy being ridden with a curb
bit, however mild, after being driven with a simple full cheek snaffle. They
sold me a snaffle with TWO hinges, and I use it when she is in a Western
saddle, primarily because she's the horse I can put ANYONE on and I would
like to make it as easy on her as possible. Stacey called it some kind of a
school bit...not schooling bit, it was named after some school whose name I
can't recall.
Would you use something like that on her? When I ride either of the
Appies I use a copper-covered snaffle for English. I don't trust Dub on the
trail with a snaffle, I use a curb on him only because he can be clever about
exerting his will if you are the least bit careless (i.e., let you attention
wander.) Casey is headstrong and I use a Kimberwicke on him; when Ralph
takes him out he uses a snaffle. But Ralph is stronger and more patient than
I am; when I want a horse to stop it is not a MULTIPLE-CHOICE question.
Is she getting close to horse-sized now?
