Lately, AVG anti-virus has begun filling my temp directory with junk files.
 AVG scans at 3:00 PM every day, on my home machine, at a time when I'm
usually away at work.  When I get back, my "Low Disk Space"
warning is on, and the temp directory is full of junk files.  One will be
roughly the same size as the availailable free space on my C:\ drive, and
then seventy or more 0KB files.

I have to manually erase them on a daily basis.

This has been going on for about a month.  It stopped for a couple of days
last week, then resumed in earnest.

Anyone got any idea WTF this is?
