Hi Christine!
CL> This is what happenned with the nylon one I had. Ben lunged forward,
CL> and the nylon just gave. So all I had left in my hand was a limp
CL> leash. Thank goodness Ben isn't the type that will run away from me.
CL> Even when I take him to the park for a romp, he stays within a five
CL> foot radius of me, refusing to run any further away. He also comes
CL> immediately when called (outside that is. When inside, he just
CL> ignores me!)
He's bound to start "test" his limits with you anytime! Make sure you have
the STAY and SIT down pat - do those commands OFTEN even when he's out on his
free time in the park.
Monster is getting better at distance control. He joins me for the few
minutes I let him go when I walk to the end of the driveway to get the mail.
I tell him "Let's get the Mail!" and he knows to start heading down the
driveway. But when I hear a car coming, I want him to pay attention and not
get into an accident. So.. I'll yell at him with "Monster? STAY" if he's at
a safe spot, or "Monster, COME! COME! COME!" (fast 3 times really seems to
work better for him than just one loud call).
SB>> dog sport a bandana than seeing a dog with bows (UGH!) in it's fur,
SB>> spritzed with perfume, and it's claws brightly painted in the
SB>> color-of-the-month!
CL> I agree with you there! I think that looks totally silly!
CL> Especially the nail polish.
Monster (although primarily black) has lighter fur on the paws. But he has
large black stripes on his paws that make it look like he's got huge or
painted claws. I never really paid attention to that before until one
dog-lover mentioned that to me. I have one picture of Monster where a bit of
this can been seen. Maybe I'll fire that one off to you.
