Something appears to be automatically translating it into a normal
non-control character then.  I wonder if the following 12 "smiling
faces" will reach your end unchanged...  {at}{at}{at}{at}{at}{at}{at}{at}{at}{at}{at}{at}.

I just saved this message, and Msged immediately turned the faces into
"{at}" characters, as you can see.  Weird.  Wonder why?
