Too expensive. They may be more stable and live longer that the cheap EIDE
(PATA/SATA) drives but for that price of a one 300GB (SCA or LVD) SCSI drive I
can buy three 500 GB Samsung T166 SATA II drives or five 300 GB Samsung T166
SATA II drives (which make a nice raid system by the way ;) ).
Ok the SCSI drives run with 10000 rpm instead of 7200 rpm but that doesn't count
here.
Sorry, but the difference in price is totally wrong these days.
In my other server I've got 3 IBM DCAS 4.3 GB (SCSI-2) and one IBM DDRS with 9.1
GB (SCSI-UW) running 24x7 for 6 to 9 years. So far no problems.
Back then the price was only a little bit above EIDE drives. With the extra
performance and the better quality (even if the DCAS line wasn't very good at
that) this was ok.
