The weather most connected with the equator is the doldriums. an absense of
wind that can persist for weeks. at higher altitudes there's an updraft of
hot air. hurricanes generally move away from the equator, and loose
strength as they approach it.

There may be some extreme weather there but I don't know of any that's common.
