BH> How's this from the In-Joy Q & A? BH> QUESTION: How do I set up a default route and nameserver on a BH> Win95 system? BH> ON THE 95 MACHINE BH> o Go to the Network settings in your settings folder. BH> o Choose TCP/IP, then properties. BH> o Make the IP address of your Warp station the ONLY entry in BH> your gateway page. BH> o Make sure you DISABLE WINS. BH> o Use the IP address of your ISP's Domain Name Server for the BH> DNS Configuration page. That is: Use the DNS IP address that BH> your Warp machine shows in the RESOLV file in the \tcpip\etc BH> directory when you are logged into the Internet. We don't use '95 but NT should be the same. The only thing we do differently is use batch files, If the In-joy system was 172.22.1.3 on the NT system we would use: route add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 172.22.1.3 to stop the NT using the In-joy system it takes: route delete 0.0.0.0 We prefer having simple batch files rather than clicking through several setup menus . The DNS stays the same, as everything else on the NT system, the only thing that needs changing from a direct dial up connection up is adding the 0.0.0.0 route. Although using the DNS on the local provider is best, any DNS will do so changing providers doesn't make too much difference either. It will work if the In-joy system is connected to a different provider than the one setup in NT, although it may be a bit slower looking up addresses. It appears that if the NT system works calling a provider directly, all that is needed is adding the new temporary route through the IN-Joy system. The In-joy system does all the real work :) joe --- Squish/386 v1.11 ---------------* Origin: After Hours BBS (717)865-2636 USR DS 16.8 (1:270/315) * Origin: After Hours BBS - (717) 865 2636 (1:270/315) |
