The other night on PBS, they had a show on Portland history. Included was a 
short bit on The Kingsmen, who first did "Louie-Louie". The drummer didn't 
know the words (big surprise!), but he said the reason the lead singer's 
diction was so incomprehesible was he'd gotten his braces tightened that day 
and his mouth hurt. They were all crowded around a single mike, which added 
to the noise.
