It is said that the best style of pizza is whatever the first one
you ever had was. That's true in my case.
DS> When I went to college ...
DS> full sheet pans and then cut it into squares.
DS> pieces were about 3 inches square.
DS> $0.10 per slice. They sold a lot of pizza.
So 40 cents for a decent snack and 90 cents for a filling meal.
Pretty decent, even then.
Yellowknife has seen some great Mom and Pop pizzerias over the
decades but we're in a lull now. Most folded when the owners
retired for lack of a buyer.
So we have just five choices, 3 good, 2 not so great.
-1- Bruno's (formerly Luigi's). Ironically run by Chinese people
both times. Old school take out and delivery. Greasy in a good way.
-2- Main Street Pizza and Deli. Run by the same people who started
Main Street Donair and Falafel where they make a great Shawarma.
(Donairs are Gyros and the owners are Egyptian, making Lebanese
food). The pizza place is Halal and serves both pizza and Indian
Food. The pizzas are intriguing as the toppings include ground beef,
lamb and tandoori chicken.
-3- Boston Pizza. A western Canadian chain that offers pizza, pasta
and other Ital-Canadian dishes. Plus wings, nachos, burgers, ribs and
steaks etc. Licensed lounge and medium OK food.
-4- Dominos, not the worst.
-5- Pizza Hut, was marginally OK in the past but went downhill under
the newest owner. Will probably fold soon.
Cheers
Jim
