-> They did. And about the movie itself, it's not gaurranteed that's
-> it's going to be based on FF7.  They're making a whole new story with

        It's an unwritten rule with Square; all Final Fantasy games are
unrelated to each other except for the trademark FF characters like
Chocobo's and Cid, but the storylines are all seperate and unique to the
individual games, and even the four-part anime series.
        As much as I would personally enjoy the FF movie to be based on
FF7 I have no doubt that it won't. The only thing we can expect is to
see Chocobo's and Cid.
        Of course Square -did- break their rule when it came to putting
Aerith and Cloud in Final Fantasy Tactics...
