Barry Laws, Jr.? ***
Having confronted Dr. David, Barry Laws, Jr., International Man Of Mystery,
exclaimed:

DGR> also allow baseball to play there. As for a nickname, I'm rather
DGR> fond of their PCL name, the Canadians....
BLJ> PCL as in the Pacific Coast League (AAA)? I wonder what they would do

      Yesseree Bob! er...Barry!

BLJ> with their AAA team if they ever got a major league baseball team
BLJ> (probably move it somewhere). The only other cities I can think of

Undoubtedly, though in hockey the Philadelphia Flyers moved their
farm team to the Spectrum just across the street from their new arena
and both draw well even when their going head to head. Chicago, Los
Angeles, Phoenix and Detroit also have minor league teams in addition to
their NHL clubs. Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, and Calgary all co-exist
with junior hockey clubs. OTOH I can't think of any baseball examples.

BLJ> that could use a major league baseball team are Washington (of course
BLJ> the Senators failed twice so fans would probably be skeptical unless
BLJ> they move some ailing National League team to Washington...that way
BLJ> the Orioles would be in the AL and the Senators(?) would be in the
BLJ> NL...the Senators [the original and the most recent] were AL),
BLJ> Nashville or Memphis, San Jose [remember they tried to move the SF
BLJ> Giants there], Las Vegas [do they have a MLB-quality stadium], and
 BLJ> maybe Portland.
Carolina seems to be a popular destination for sport clubs in
recent years and would have to be considered, ditto with Nashville. It's
still a crime that Washington doesn't have a team (the most recent
expansion bid had picked the Nationals as their moniker.) San Jose
would be too close to San Fran, Memphis with their poor support of the
Oilers might be a bad choice and Las Vegas really would need an indoor
stadium.
If MLB wants to continue to expand they might want to look outside
English North America. San Juan, Puerto Rico would be a good spot as
would Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and certainly Guadalajara,
Mexico City, and Monterrey in Mexico would all make could choices.
Personally I can't wait for the London Kings to start playing...
                                       Sincerely Yours

                                       David G. Riess
                                       EchoMr.Geography
... I'm sorry, Dave, I can't let you do that.
