Thanks.  I sort of knew that (having got on an airplane in my lifetime),
but, as usual, had built a web of complication for myself.

One of these days I will build a lightweight and semi-correct conception of
how an o-o operating system staggers through a very sequential world, while
still communicating via pipes that have a very finite delay (ranging from a
few inches of motherboard trace to a few tens of thousands of km of
sat-link). It must be a minefield of stalls, deadlocks and tight loops
(which seem to have been renamed "race conditions" these days).
