ALM> There's an article in todays Fin Review about a new law the federal ALM> gov are bringing in that will automatically repeal all regulations ALM> after 5 years. It claims to be an 'attempt to reduce the executive's ALM> power to make "non-legislative" law.' Quite interesting stuff, just ALM> what you're always on about. It talks about secret laws etc and ALM> covers reulations, bylaws, codes of practice, determinations and ALM> declarations made by govt agencies. It will also require a central ALM> register of all the ones they do introduce so you can go and look ALM> them all up. I'll save it. If you're interested netmail your address. BL> It's interesting to see the different approach BL> betwen Labor and Liberal after so long under Labor. Pity its not, there was some of that approach with Labor too. What ACTUALLY happening is that they are BOTH changing over time, most obvious with the stuff like deregulation, flogging off guvmint operations that no longer make any sense to be done by the guvmint etc etc etc. There is in fact surprisingly little between them, particularly the labor right and the libs. Tho there is more difference between the basket weaver left of the labor party and say the Nats. BL> They are both concerned to protect freedom, Thats distinctly arguable, most obviously with smoking and soft drugs like cannabis. BL> but they come at it from totally different directions. Fraid not, nothing remotely like it. BL> The Libs reduce government and bureaucratic interference, using formal BL> law instead, but they censor and restrict art that might hurt a family. Odd, could have SWORN that NSW labor was attempting just that with the internet laws, and Keating was moving in that direction on the stuff like violent TV progs etc too. Nice theory, pity about the reality tho. BL> Labor likes ID cards and big bureaucracies, Fraid not, federally we have one of the smallest bureaucracys in the entire first world per head of population or what it costs to run. We certainly do have a rather higher total bureaucracy than desirable once you include the states, but thats a consequence of our federal system, its got fuck all to do with Labor and most of thats actually happened under various coalition state governments. BL> Unions and hidden agendas, Corse there aint ever any hidden agenda on the non labor side eh ? BL> but they push artistic freedom. Strange... Hardly strange, those people basically wouldnt be seen dead supporting non labor. BL> I lived through Bob Menzies' 26 years and now Hawke/Keating's 14 BL> years, and Liberal is better. At least you know where you stand. Poor old Bob. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 712/610 @PATH: 711/934 |
