That was quite true with WD's Mode 3 850Mb and 1.2Gb HDs of about 6-8 months ago, but not so with their newer Mode 4s, which is why WD's HDs of those capacities disappeared from general sale for a short while, around 4-6 months ago. Jack's was originally one of the dodgy Mode 3 1.2Gb drives, and was eventually replaced with a 1.6Gb Mode 4 which has so far not missed a beat (damn fast drive, too), and my own Mode 4 1.2Gb WD drive is also flying.
