From: "Geo."
No wasn't being tongue in cheek at all. If someone is going to pay for
software then it has to be something they use. Giving them 3 months lets
them learn the software and convince themselves that they will use it and
it will do the job. Once they have 3 months invested in the software it's
much harder to give it up.
If they just use it for a week, well they only have a week of learning
invested in it so it's not so much to give it up and go look for something
that's free or less money.
As an author, what is the additional cost of allowing 3 months instead of a
week, nothing. And after 3 month's they've forgotten what other programs
there were to try or which ones they tried.. If they use it to any real
extent they are going to buy it. If they don't use it then nothing lost
since they didn't really use it. Oh and it should be a full version not
crippleware. Crippleware cripples their opinion of it.
Also if it's a utility that someone who fixes computers might use, don't
license it by the computer, license it by the user so he can use it like a
screwdriver where you don't pay for every machine you use the screwdriver
on. That's turned me off on more imaging software than I can count. Who the
hell buys a screwdriver that is billed by the number of screws you use it
on?
