What happens when you try to DL/UL?  Does it fail right then and there
or after it gets started or what?
Are you sure the UL/DL directories exist?
(Also, you need to remember that TMW is 1.00.  To me, that's essentially
still beta.)

There is a PC Speaker driver for windows that allows Windows to play
sounds (.wav etc.)  I don't know if it would work well in a comm
program.  Microsoft makes one but I think it disables interrupts while
playing and that wouldn't be a good idea for a comm program.  There is
another one that has the option to leave interrupts enabled, but the
sound isn't as good because of the delays for servicing interrupts
(mouse, comm, etc.)
Go to the file section on your BBS and look for keywords such as
'speaker', 'speak', 'spkr', etc.
