Strongly recommend that you get a hardware router/firewall.  Hook the dsl
modem up to it, and hook the computer to the router (using an ethernet
cable).

Configure the router like the DSL provider tells you (hint - get the linux
instructions) and enable DHCP for lan clients.

Configure tcpip for DHCP.  The router will do the rest.

Been running here for well over a year.  Enjoy!
