Late note: WARNING! THE LATEST HOBBES OS/2 CD-ROM NO LONGER HAS .EXE
READY-TO-RUN PRE-INSTALLED PROGRAMS! The 8/94 CD is 680MB of ZIP
files.

Walnut Creek told me that they'll be coming out with a "ready-to-run"
CD next month (Oct.); given that it took 6 months to get out the next
"quarterly" Hobbes CD, I guess that means Jan. '95? They couldn't fit
all the needed ZIP files AND the pre-installed code on one CD, so the
new executeable CD will have lots more.

I had to fix the epson driver in Ghostscript for OS/2, and that meant
using the pre-installed emx/gcc compiler on the 2/94 Hobbes CD. It's
quite a sight to watch the compiler churn away; took 30min to do the
137 objects for Ghostscript. That's when I realized I'd not yet made
the mods to the gdevepsn.c.... The emx stuff really works, though
you need a MAKE (I used C Set++ nmake), and runs off CD at moderate
speed.

Thus, the $16-$19 street-priced Hobbes CD (especially the 2/94
edition) makes for one of the lowest-budget OS/2 compilers. As for
your "command line" comment, I'm not about to do battle with emacs
right now, but the one on the 2/94 Hobbes does seem to run as a PM
program, and i'd not be at all surprised if it could be beaten into
spawning emx compiles and maybe even vectoring off the errors. Like I
said, the debugger is the missing part of such a poor man's IDE, PM or
no PM.

The latest Hobbes seems to lack sources for Ghostscript. Anyone know
if it's past v2.6.1 yet?
