PG BB> On november 25th I bought a sun conure cage and all supplies for
00.
BB> The bird was 6 months old at the time so it was definately young
BB> enough. The last few months have been extremely entertaining. While
e
BB> does partially deserve his reputation for being loud he is also
BB> talking quite plain now. This is something that I was told probably
BB> wouldn't happen..at least not too quickly.
BB>
BB> My one question right now is does anyone have an idea on life
BB> expectancy? I don't particularly pay too much attention to the
verage
BB> numbers but would like to get some kind of an idea. Thanks for
BB> listening and any info anyone can provide.
PGI've seen figures as low as 15 and as high as 25. My Gold-capped conure
(same genus as your Sun)is 7 and a half now and shows no signs of slowing
down. Expect it to take about 3 years for your bird to reach its mature
personality. As a young conure, Widget was very playful, but also very
placid about his body. We often held him cradled in our palms, with his
legs dangling through. As he's gotten older, he is more into mutual
preening than finger-wrestling, and he's gotten a better sense of his
body---no more dangling feet! He is a very gentle bird, though and loves
to cuddle inside my sweatshirt.
I've experienced some of that reckless playfulness as well. Its
been fun so far. He just loves to play. I'm almost certain he is a he
anyways.
PG It is only within the last 2 years that he's discovered that flying is a
way to get where you want to go. For the first 3 years of his life, he
hardly flew at all. I guess he figured out that we would carry him
anywhere he wanted to go. He has always been an excellent flier, though.
Sunny doesnt mind flying from person to person..not much on flying
anywhere else though.
