 Well studying C programming the Linux box was using 16
 486's dumb terminals hooked up to it for 16 students.
 That Linux box neither locked up nor crashed in 7 months.

 Maybe, maybe not.
 Boot to the ISO image CD and very clear prompts
 holding your hand along the way.
 
 I found it totally simple and it gives ample cautions so you can
 chicken and abort at major steps

Oh yeah, Charles A. told me remind you if you want to burn your' own
Knoppix CD you need a burner and software to overburn a CD.

Thanks from Wayne, I just might snag that Knoppix book you listed
above to speed up the learning curve on the advanced stuff.
Knoppix is based upon Debian Linux with the accent on ease 
to install and use.
