The Fido Shortwave Echo is an independent one and part of FIDO NET.  It is 
not gated to usenet.  However, there IS a newsgroup feed from the Internet 
called rec.radio.shortwave.   That newsgroup carries a lot of useful 
information about shortwave radio.  Much of the same info is offered on this
