Spare set in case of a break, or second line.  I think in the days of party 
telephones they were connected, and had a different function.

If you don't have any audible hum or noise, it's probably ok.  The crosstalk 
problem is if you're using yellow/black for a different line, and 
conversation from one line "bleeds over" onto the other.
