>
> International Student Review Board
>
> The SAP/Stevie Wonder Vision Awards program was launched in May 1997.
The goal of the program is to recognize individuals and organizations using
or creating technology to help integrate blind and visually impaired
persons into the workforce.
>
> The Awards program will designate Awards in the following three
categories:
> 1. Outstanding Products: either existing technology products that have
empowered the blind and visually impaired and are in use by real people,
doing real work, in the real world, or prototype products that are judged
best-of-its-kind or
> product-of-the-year.
>
> 2. Vision Pioneers: outstanding programmers, academic, government, or
business-arena researchers and scientists who have forwarded the cause of
total access and inclusively for the blind and visually impaired through
research and development efforts.
>
> 3. Role Model Organizations: outstanding organizations, business,
education, non-profit institutions and others that set role model examples
in their use of information technology in creative and effective ways to
integrate the blind and visually impaired
> into the workforce.
>
> There is no application fee for the Awards. There will be one winner in
each category that will be awarded up to $250,000. Winners will be
announced at an Awards Gala in August of 1998.
>
> An International Student Review Board made up of college-level blind and
visually impaired students will judge finalists in the Outstanding Products
category. Students will be asked to volunteer their time to participate in
a Testing Day. Testing Day
> will be the arena where the product finalists will demonstrate their
products and then the students will evaluate the products and judge them
based on a set criteria.
>
> The International Student Review Board will consist of students from the
United States, Germany and Europe. While the testing and judging
procedures have not been finalized as of yet, we anticipate that there will
be two Testing Day events - one in the
> US and the other in Germany - conducted simultaneously. Stevie Wonder
may also participate in Testing Day, however his involvement will be
determined at a later date.
>
> There will be travel involved to participate in the Testing Day (in the
US only). SAP America will provide airfare and hotel accommodations for
members of the International Student Review Board.

> Mission Statement
>
>
> The SAP/Stevie Wonder Vision Award Program is designed to promote
innovative technology solutions and opportunities to further integrate
blind and visually impaired individuals into the workforce.
>
> A joint effort between SAP and Stevie Wonder, the Award Program was
created to raise the awareness and spur the development and distribution of
technology solutions to enable blind and visually impaired individuals to
actively participate in and
> contribute to the business community. In addition, the program will
identify and honor outstanding products, role model organizations that are
actively employing the visually impaired and significant research and
development efforts in this area.
>
> Award Goals:
>
> Appreciate the Strengths of the Blind and Visually Impaired
> The SAP/Stevie Wonder Vision Award was conceived to recognize the
value and talent of the blind and visually impaired, and their aspirations
for successful and rewarding careers
> Increase the Role and Volume of the Blind and Visually Impaired in the
Workforce
> By generating awareness of the under-utilization of the blind and
visually impaired in the workforce, the program expects to promote more
opportunities for training and employing these individuals in the workforce
> Increase Exposure for Existing Technology Solutions
> The SAP/Stevie Wonder Vision Award will promote existing technology
products that have empowered blind and visually impaired individuals to
actively participate in the workforce
> Drive the Need for New Products
> The Award Program will challenge the technology industry to develop
and make widely accessible new products to assimilate blind and visually
impaired into the workforce
> Promote Research and Development Initiatives and Role Model Organizations
> Significant research and development efforts will be identified and
supported through the Awards Program, as well as the promotion of role
model organizations who have successfully integrated the blind and visually
impaired into their workforce
