-> I wonder why Polk would encourage us to try building our own
-> HVCD sub by selling us a computer program to do the math and a
-> listing of parts suppliers with plans? Sounds too good to be true. I
-> read the article last night and spent some time playing with some
-> numbers myself. I would love to give it a shot and will if nothing
-> else...order the kit Polk offers.
Well, it's great advertising for them. Also, when I called them, I
found out that Polk will sell you the drivers, not some other supplier.
The drivers are custom built for Polk, so it would probably cost a lot
more to get them somewhere's else. Most people won't attempt building
the sub, but I do expect quite a few people to order the plans. Than if
they decide not too build it, for whatever reason, but still need a sub,
Polk is almost garaunteed their business. Even people who just read it
and come away impressed with the new design, are much more likely to buy
Polk.
-> It still isn't clear to me just how much of this is Polks'
-> intellectual find/property, and what has been with us for a while and
-> Polk refined. No matter, it presents an excellent opportunity for a
-> class project. Thanks for calling it to my attention! Do you plan on
-> building one?
I'm sending away for the kit, and as long as I think it's a doable
project for me, I'm going to build one with the help of a friend. It
should be an interesting project, and if it turns out well, and amazing
subwoofer!
