Leah Rozhon talking to Bill Piehler
Hi Rozhon,
LR>Happy Holidays to you there down under. Enjoy your summer. It's below
LR>zero here tonight on this Christmas eve.
Thanks, I certainly am, even so it's not a white Christmas...:) Hope you
found some interesting goodies in your sock you put out for Santa..
> > BP> still no msges in the Travel echo from you. Actually there are not
LR>Try sending me a message on that echo, will you? I'm curious to see if
LR>messages can get through or if the problem is only me getting out.
LR>Thanks.
Right, I'll send a copy of this msg through the travel echo.
> BP> out of trees. I also notice, that blokes, that are training with racing
> BP> bikes prefer to ride right on the white line, which separates the
LR>Around here they ride the white line to give them more choices in
LR>traffic situations. Bicycles are considered vehicles and have to obey
LR>all rules of the road, therefore they have to be in a position to do
LR>what cars do.
The same law applies around here too to a certain extend. Only recently
the wearing of safety helmets became mandatory. As far as where one rides
a bike is very confusing. Many ride there bikes on the foot path, kids
going to school ride anywhere, some path are for bikes as well as
pedestrians. Then pedestrians walk on bike lanes, and if I ring the
bell some don't like it, if I don't ring the bell some don't like it
either.
Actually there is room for all of us, and it does not mater if one rides
here or there.....that's why I picked a route where I can stick to the
marked bike land alongside a road, rather then where I have to share it
with walkers. Unless I'm riding just for something to do, then I stop
a lot and talk to people, who want to do so......Don't like to stop
or change my speed when I do my morning tour.....:)))
> BP> That sound like a good idea. I don't fancy riding amongst a lot of
> BP> traffic, where the air one breathes is polluted with poisonous
LR>That's my biggest problem with commuting around here.
Around here at Victoria Point, where I'm living, there isn't too much
heavy traffic. Where the road leaves the Point, the stream of cars
becomes heavier, it's like a river system......hehehe
> BP> The trail system I really admire and envy you for: is the walking
> BP> trails that you have over there. IMHO it must be one if not the best
LR>Which trails are you referring to? All the bike trails can be hiked,
LR>but maybe you're talking about the Appalachian trail that runs from one
LR>end of the country to the other? That's rugged, I'm told.
Yea, that's one of them but there are quite a few others. Like the Pacific
Crest Trial, all the way from Mexico to Canada, not to mention the many
others which exist in every National Park and Forest Park.
Don't know too much about long distance Bike tracks. Which ones are you
referring to?
LR> BP> Gripes, that is a very densely populated area, doing any cross
untry
LR>Yeah, tell me! It's almost like living in the city now. At least where
LR>traffic is concerned.
Yup, where I'm living, it's one of the fastest growing areas in OZ.
> BP> skiing? that would be an activity I would like to try out in earnest.
LR>No, I haven't tried that, but it does sound like fun. Only problem is
LR>that it has to snow and stay on the ground. The weather isn't
LR>consistent enough for me. This is what the bike club does in the
LR>winter. Many seem to like it. The equipment is expensive, though, and
LR>I don't think I'd do it enough to make it worth while. I'd do better
LR>with a ski machine. :-)
Good idea, I don't like to spend a lot of money on things, that are then
not used. Besides walking is still the simplest and best exercise there
is. Doesn't really mater if it rains or shines...oh well or snows one
can always walk...
Happy biking...oh well...next spring....Bill:)
