subject: List Box Style

DR> Thanks David for your msg about List Box Style, on 28 09-28-1994
DR>
DR> DB> Is it possible to change a list box style contained in a
DR> DB> Dialog box from the dialog procedure? What I want to do is to

DR>
DR> I had a problem with this as well. I'm a long time PM programmer
DR> but there are some issues about style setting that I can't find
DR> definitive info about. Basically, when you want to change a
DR> window's styles, you call WinSetWindowUlong() and set new styles.
DR> But, that just sets some memory. As far as I know it does not kick
DR> off any event to the window to inform it that new styles have
DR> changed. Often you just then invalidate the window and it will
DR> redraw using these new styles, because these styles are just
DR> stateless info that is looked at when drawing and changes are
DR> accepted without comment. But for something like MS/SS style on a
DR> list box, these styles often seem to be interpreted only once
DR> during window creation and used to set up other internal data from
DR> which this state info gotten in the future.

This is what I was expecting to happen as well, but I am able to make
this work. I have a program that gives the user the option of having a
multi-select listbox or an extended-select listbox, and setting the
style on the listbox is all I do. They click a "Multi-select" option
button, I change the style, and it works immediately. No redrawing,
etc. It was one of those things I thought I'd just try, and lo and
behold, it worked. I wasn't expecting it to. I don't imagine that this
kind of behaviour holds for other controls in PM, but for listboxes, it
works.
