subject: SMALL GENERATORS

-> -> Hercules? Last one of those I worked on was a HX series. 6 cylin
-> -> flathead, maybe 900+ cubic inch? Ran a 150kw generator for backup
-> -> power at a radio station. Probably 1947 vintage unit. Was replac
-> -> by a Cat diesel 10 years ago.
->
-> These were li'l ole bitty four bangers, maybe 50 Cu. in. Mostly with
-> irrigation canal water cooling. Generally direct drive to the
-> compressor and sometimes with a belted 5-8Kw AC generator for
-> driving fan motors etc. I saw some of the cutest radial three and
-> five cylinder compressors and a few inline fours.
50 ci? Almost into the Crosley territory. That's tiny! I think the
20hp Kohler is bigger than that! Never saw anything like that up here.
-> Our local radio station has a 50KW Onan powered by a Chrysler slant
-> six 225 Cu. In. and impossible to cool! If the power outage lasts
-> very long, count on the chizzler starting to boil.
Well, nothing that a separate water pump (hello, Grainger?) and a good
sized truck radiator wouldn't cure! Surprised they'd put up with that.
None of my clients (or me) would. Hope it's not the prime EBS station!
Is that the 600 AM station?
