I am aware of DCC's existence, but it requires the usage of network components (and, I've purposely disabled a lot of the networking stuff on this (Internet) machine, for security reasons). This setup has been stable and secure for years now, and I'd rather not open a new 'can of worms'. If I do decide to install networking, it'll be for a 'real' network, and not for a serial/parallel connection (and, only after doing my 'homework'). Thanks for the idea, though, Jean.
