PE> My clock is not off. I am sending this message on Wednesday, 31/7/96
PE> at 12:15. What do you see it as?

Right day, but time is 8:09, close enough. That last message was early by
around a day.

JT> turned on adaptive answering on the lightfax.

PE> No, I said I was going to, but I didn't actually do it until that
PE> night. And yours failed straight away.

 :-(

JT> Either way, I will be looking for another modem. Banksia said they would

PE> Have you documented all the problems you are having? Make sure
PE> Brenton gets a list, because he assures me that Banksia will solve all
PE> my problems since they rewrite all the code etc etc.

I've only started documenting the problems recently. As far as Banksia goes,
they've only become remotely helpful recently, after much prodding. Early on
in the piece, it was a case of "you're the only one with the problem,
so there".

PE> The lightfax (ie a yumcha modem) has been the most reliable modem I
PE> have used. Except for the adaptive answer, if that is relevant to
PE> you, but given that it has had exactly the same problem on the Viper
PE> and the Lightfax, that's probably a Banksia problem.

I'd say so. Yes, fax is major purchase consideration, adapive answering seems
to work ok on the myfastmodem, but then again, I don't get a wide variety of
incoming calls.

PE> What have you got against an el-cheapo yum-cha modem? If I had my
PE> time again, it's what I would do.

Nothing, if they work and keep on working. I've seen cheapoes where the
board soldering quality was around early high-school student quality. How long
can one expect something like that to last? As well as the guys at the shop
don't let you take the thing apart to have a peek inside... So I have to
rely on blind faith that the guts inside is as good as they claim to be.

PE> P.S. How close do you live to Wollstonecraft? Perhaps we could swap
PE> modems for a month so that we can both "try before we buy"?

I live in croydon park, but work in chatswood. If early evening weekdays
are too early, I can come up on a weekend providing we organise a time.
