Or newer versions of MS make too.  You have two choices:  1) Place this
near the top of your makefile:

    all: main.exe main.res

2) Or change this:

 HdA> main.exe: main.obj sub1.obj etc. until subn.obj

To this:

      main.exe: main.obj sub1.obj etc. until subn.obj main.res
