subject: The Boston Bundle

Hi Den:
You didn't mention it and I just couldn't resist.
InfoWorld, 16-Dec-1996, p.3
"Microsoft this week ill send to selected developers an early version of a
programmer-oriented bundle anchored by the latest beta release of its
Internet Studio. The package, code-named Boston, consists of beta versions
of C++ 5.0, Visual Basic 5.0, Visual FoxPro, J++, and the Visual Source
tool for team programming. SQL Server 6.5 is also part of the beta bundle
but is not expected to be part of the final product, beta testers said.
The final version, which requires between 400MB and 800MB of disk space,
is expected to ship sometime during the first quarter of 1997."
And p. 16
"Microsoft has agreed to acquire NetCarta and its WebMapper tool, which lets
users manage large-scale Web sites and will become an integral part of
Microsoft's Back-Office server suite.
WebMapper provides site visualization, content analysis, linking management,
and reporting capabilities for Web servers. It will work with Microsoft Web
authoring tools such as FrontPage and Visual IntDev (formerly called Internet
Studio), officials said."
It seems that InfoWorld reporters don't communicate amongst themselves very
well, as the first author was unaware of the name change.
But, gee, why didn't they include Access or Access 97? Hmmmm. Abb?
