Hello Paul > Why are you passing AUST_TRADING on to Teddy? LOCUSER is OK, > there's no way she can get it from anywhere else (within reason), Agreed > but AUST_TRADING she should be getting from her normal source. The Tasmanian Hub for all mail closed down some time ago, and since that time AUST_TRADING was not available in Tasmania. > In > fact, why are you getting it from me instead of her? Because a feed from you is more direct. This means that when an item that is offered for sale in Sydney, a reply can be made before the item is sold to a local Sydney buyer. This is the main reason for my getting the echo from you. Even if it was available from someone else in Tasmania, I woud receive the adverts some 4 days after their appearance in Sydney Experience has shown that most "good deals" had already been snapped up before I had even received the message. Hence.... Get a direct feed from Sydney > It's quite > obvious she is able to get it through the normal channels, She could possibly get it from her feed in Melbourne, but as she is bringing in a lot of other echos, and I was importing AUST_TRADING directly for my oen benefit, my passing it to her was a effort to keep her phone bill to a minimum. Contrary to the situation in other states, there is no ONE person who brings all echos into Tasmania. This means that ALL mail must be received at the expense of Interstate STD charges. Unlike Sydney, no sysop can get mail for the cost of a local call unless another sysop has already paid the STD charges to bring it into the state. The only echo that I receive from you that is available locally is AUST_AVTECH, and that is at the request of Niels. All other echos that you send to me are NOT available in Tasmania > CP> Is AUST_TRADING the only echo that you are receiving duplicate messages > in? > Yes, that I noticed anyway. It's more than just dupes, it's a > matter of there being 180 messages. Unless you have become the > entire Tasmanian feed, there shouldn't be any messages other than > yours coming back at me. At the time I started receiving it from you, it was not available anywhere in Tasmania. I was simply passing it to Denise, and was unaware of what was happening after that. As you will have seen in Netmail, Denise has explained that the problem was caused by someone downstream of her. >> I was tossing up whether to password-protect my session >> so you couldn't do it again, and send you netmail, to >> let me know when you had your end fixed up. > CP> I was under the impression that my sessions with you were password > CP> protected. In what way would a password protect stop the sending of > CP> duplicate messages > Because if I set your password to "fred", then you would not be able > to connect to me. After the modems had connected, I would hang up > on you. In other words you would be shutting the door to ALL mail passing between us. I am grateful that you did not take that course of action. >> And then what do you plan to do so that this won't happen >> again? > CP> I am at a loss to explain *why * it has started happening, but with the > CP> echo disconnected I cannot trace any faults. > The fault is you exporting it to Teddy. Are you requesting that I cease passing echos to Denise? If so, does this apply to all echos or only some. If only some echos, could you please advise me of your wishes, and I will comply immediately. > CP> 1. Disconnect Denise from the feed (this will remove one possible cause) > This is the cause. This was how the problem caused by someone else, caused Denise, myself, and yourself a problem. Until I am advised by you to the contrary, the link to Denise in AUST_TRADING will remain severed. > Please don't reconnect Denise. It is highly unlikely she wants you > to supply her with that echo. She actually requested me to supply her once she was aware that I was receiving it > There is no reason for her to want it. Wouldn't asking her, be a sensible alternative? May I pass your above comments on to her, so that she understands why I cannot reconnect her to AUST_TRADING ??? > You can only choose one host for an echo like that, me or her. I had chosen you as the host because of the speed of reception and reply that a Sydney host provided. > I would suggest her. I would still prefer to receive it from you, but only if you are still prepared to supply me. > Why you want to pay STD charges for a trading > echo you can get locally is beyond me. I trust that my explanation regarding the time factor involved has clarified the situation. > BTW, I reconnected you to AUST_TRADING just now, as you requested. Thank you. > When you see the light and decide to get it from Teddy instead, I hope that my previous paragraphs have explained why this is not a practical option. > CP> An explanation of a secure system would be appreciated, as I do not > CP> understand the term. Any explanation can only add to mylimited knowledge > of > CP> mailing systems Your explanation has been filed for reference purposes. Thankyou for clarifying the situation.
