Vic, I have a Epox mb and VIA chipset. A month ago I got the 
"onboard" VT6103 NIC working.

When I had 4 USB ports in config.sys it was a no go.
When I reduced the USB ports to 3, the NIC worked.

Currently I am running 2 UHCD and 1 EHCD with an Epson 880
on USB and the NIC still works.

You might just try and reduce the qty of USB lines/ports
and see what happens. (especially if you have onboard NIC)
