One thing to not try to do is cp filename.txt /dev/hda1 

Back when playing around with an early Slackware I made no such 
mistake but I dunnit on Knoppix when overly tired. 

I knew even before I attempted to reboot that I'd made a big boo boo
and the dual boot and operating systems were history and of course that 
was right as it's exactly what I'd told the system to do :-(
