Jerry's right. Several manufacturers Laser/LED printers are available in
very cheap versions with no internal smarts. They only work under
Windows (using the Windows Graphic Display Interface or GDI) using the
main system processor for rasterisation etc.
This does not apply to dot matrix printers, all those that support
graphics have some level of internal smarts.

Most Windows GDI printers have absolutely _no_ internal smarts, some
have just enough to support basic text printing under DOS.
