No it wasn't. Study some microeconomics sometime, it's a fascinating
subject which can help you understand a lot of apparently weird things in
the market. The technique is called "price discrimination". It
serves to let manufacturers exploit consumer surplus. Microsoft and other
companies practise third degree price discrimination.

product cannot be resold below the price of the competing identical
