RS> Have you tried blowing in Optus's ear
RS> about their local phone call service yet ?
BG> No, but it can't be too far away now. We've had them installing
BG> cables locally for a couple of weeks, so with a bit of luck, Optus'
BG> local calls will turn up a bit sooner than the recently mooted 12
BG> months. If I can eliminate the copper between here and the exchange,
BG> 90% of my attenuation problems should disappear.
RS> Corse that would be REAL bleeding edge stuff right
RS> now, but with that decent USR capability to measure
RS> the lines themselves, could be very interesting indeed.
BG> Can't be any worse than the current lines. Bloody hell, some calls to
BG> Paul connect at 28800, while others are as low as 16800 lately, and
BG> this appears to be completely unrelated to the time of day, too.
from what i hear, optus local calls won't be using the coax, there is a
twisted pair cable piggybacked with it. they reckon that they will be round
here in about 3 months, i'll probably sign up just to get decent tv
reception.
