Yeah I had some problems with the 40 column display running at 640x480,
whatever bits, using matroxfb.  I haven't looked at the svga libs in many
years now.  Far too slow.

Actually with the 2.6 kernels I managed to pull it out of the hat from
2.6.6 upwards.  I started using a rc2 patch yesterday for 2.6.8.1 and lo
and behold there is a VAST improvement, or at least for matroxfb.  I am
impressed.  Still not perfect as I still haven't successfully compiled
mplayer since 2.4.  I am trying it again as we speak.  AHA!  Success!!!  It
just finished.  One sec ... ooops.  mga_vid is complaining about version.h
so I better fix it.  This will take a little while but I think it is
doable.  Getting there.  :-)
