A friend got a 64 page document off the InterNet.
It was originally written using MS Word and saved in
ASCII. Every line had 3 spaces or more at the
beginning. We had much "fun" cleaning up that one.
What a mess.
Worse, the author did not appear to follow any
rule on spacing. There would be single spacing after
punctuation at some places and double others. Double
spaces were thrown in at odd places in the text.
Macros like SPACETAB and Hrt2Srt had problems because
things weren't consistent. Some paragraphs had no
blank line following, some 1, some 2 and even 3.
Had the errors been consistent, it would have been
bad enough, but the inconsistency made it worse.
However, after much labor, we (mostly I) did get it
straightened out. My friend sat down with it last
night and did a final proof-read, then left it printing
out. It was all done when I got up this morning - at
least the printer didn't run out of ink! *:o)
