MP> RF{ JK> Diet, as far we know of today, in the case of children with
MP> ADD RF{ or JK> ADHD works only on those children from families with a
MP> RF{ history of JK> alcoholism. The dietary supplement developed by Dr.
MP> RF{ Terry Neher was JK> done in joint research with Kenneth Blume down
MP> RF{ in Texas a few years JK> back. The supplement was originally
MP> RF{ developed for genetic alcoholics, JK> then later on it was
MP> RF{ discovered that it works much BETTER THAN RITALIN JK> in the 30%
MP> of RF{ children with the genetic alcoholism.
MP> RF{ What about the other 70% ? What do you do for them? Nothing??
MP> I hope you got the four part post on ADD girls.
Yes, I did. My machine has been down for 2 days so I haven't received
mail nor did my last mail go out.
MP> Jane tells them it is their parents fault, they need more discipline,
MP> and to take an herb.
I wanted to hear the answer from her. To me the 70 percent is too big
to conclude that diet is an answer. This is proof initself.
MP> RF{ JK> There was also a TV special a few days back about a woman who
MP> RF{ has JK> adopted a child with Down's syndrome, is feeding her a
MP> RF{ special JK> nutritional formula, and has managed to PREVENT MENTAL
MP> RF{ RETARDATION in JK> this child!
MP> RF{ What? This child is cured? Then why doesn't all medical doctors
MP> RF{ use this?
MP> No, not quite. There is a serious public misconception of Down
MP> Syndrome. Not all of those with it are mentally retarded to the point
MP> of life long dependency. MANY are able to learn, need some extra help,
MP> and lead very productive lives.
I don't know much about Down Syndrome. It is not something I really am
concerned with since my children don't have it. I do good just finding
and reading what concerns my children. I guess my question to her was
kinda sarcastic. I hear things on TV, Mags and so forth and have never
taken one thing as gospel. I also believe that if you really want to
believe in something you can talk yourself into that something working.
Does that make sense. Its kinda like subliminal suggestions.
MP> Our family volunteers at a special school for these kids. We work
MP> there every Saturday. Josh does sports, Sandy tutors, Noah, at eight,
You must be very proud of your kids. Kids love other kids. It really
helps children when another child helps them, emotionally as well as
setting a good example to everyone.
MP> What offends me about Jane's uninformed harping on this one story (and
MP> the story itself) is the fact that it was only one child in an
MP> uncontrolled setting. Totally unscientific. However, this program can
MP> raise false hopes and lead parents away from "what works" to some
MP> untried and unproven treatment. One additional thought is that if this
MP> mother had done nothing the child may have been the same way. IOW, it
MP> was not this witches brew which did it.
I think I made a comment that did not go out yet on this. Taking a study
seriously there must be several consistancies in several studies. You must
be able to duplicate the outcome or it proves nothing. I can say I take
vitamins and it helps my blood sugar, this suggests my body is lacking
something. But it also could mean I believe its works therefore, it does.
There is no way for me to prove this could be an answer without doing
several studies or reseach which comes out to the same conclusion.
MP> RF{ JK> I think it is long past time that other parents listen on the
MP> RF{ subject JK> of remedial diets.
MP> RF{ You think.
No, I did not say this. This post may suggest that. No, I do not believe
in diets for ADHD, my mail with my stand will be posted shortly.
Also, Mark, I truly believe Jane is a caring individual. I am trying not
to get sarcastic anymore with her as it is making this into flame-throwing
issue. We know from her posts that she really believes everything she is
saying. My earlier posts, which did not go out yet will explain it all.
